The Tangiwai Rail Disaster

 The Tangiwai Rail Disaster

What do I think I know about the disaster?

I would think  that the Tangiwai rail disaster derailed from the track, or the track was covered by lahar, because I heard lahar had a part in the disaster.

What do I think I will learn?

I would love to hear about what happened. How many people died and if there are any stories from people who lived though the disaster.

Questions:

1. 258 people were on board the train.

2. The lahar began at the top of Mt Ruapehu

3. The Tangiwai Railway disaster happened on December 24th 1953 at 10.21 pm

4. The driver knew to stop the train because a man was waving a torch.

5. The Queen gave out medals to 4 volunteers for their bravery
6. An early warning system about the Whanaghya ruver was installed.
