Gummy Bear Osmosis

Aim:

I want to find out what happens to Gummy Bears when we put them into different liquids.

Predictions:

I think that Gummy Bears will shrink or grow in the liquids.

Method:

Equipment:

• Three solutions - Water - Sugar - salt
• Four Gummy bears of the same colour
• Two Petri Dish
• Marker Pen
• Electronic Balance
• Measuring Cylinder
• Beaker 

Instructions

• Get your equipment
• Label Petri Dishs with dry, water, salt water, sugar water
• Weigh the Gummy Bears and record their weight on the Petri dish
• Add 40mL of the solution into the Petri Dish

Orchestra

Hello and welcome! In hur 2 with Miss Bremmer and Mr Cairns we have been learning about instruments, and this week we have been learning about the Orchestra. Last week it was all about guitars.

An Orchestra is a group of musicians ( although they can also be called instrumentalists ) usually play classical music with a combination of four instruments: Woodwind, percussion, brass and last but not least, strings.

Woodwind, believe it or not, need wind to use!.. That was funny was it :c

Although brass instruments also use air to use, a woodwind just looks like a fancy stick. Flutes and clarinets are some of the most popular woodwind instruments.

Percussion, are instruments that when hit or shaken, will make music. Things like xylophone, maracas, piano and many types of drums are all the percussion family. Do you remember those little triangle things back in preschool? They are also percussion!

Brass, are similar to woodwinds as if you blow into a brass instrument it’ll make music. They are usually made from some type of metal or sometimes wood and most have a funnel shaped mouthpiece.

Strings, are instruments that have strings so any instrument which uses string to make music would be a string instrument, mind blowing isn’t it! So this means instruments like a violin, cello, banjo and even a harp are all string instruments.

Pizzas

 For 17th and 18th of March we had Food Tech where we made two quick and easy types of pizza. The first one we had made was on Giannis pita bread, or so I think. The next pizza that we made was using tortillas. For both pizzas we used almost the same ingredients, red onion, capsicum, cheese, ham and salami. Sure a little plain, but both were amazing! Now that you know the ingredients that we used, it’s time for the preparation. We started off by dicing the capsicum and red onion. While two people were doing that someone else went up to get the pizza sauce and after that we had to get the cheese. The vegs were cut on a green board and the shredded cheese on a white board. Now we got out our brown board and we diced the meat. Now all the ingredients have been prepared we would add them onto our pizza’s base. We would add the vegs first then meat and then the cheese. Then right into the oven for a while and once the pizza was taken out of the oven it was almost ready, just gotta let it cool down.

Sadly I didn’t have the first pizza we had made but the second pizza did taste amazing, according to my mum. Apparently it was very cheesy.

Skittle Colours Experiment

 Skittle Colour Experiment

Aim

I want to find out what happens when you mix Skittle colours.

Method

Equipment

• Skittles
• Petri disk
• Warm water
• Beaker
• White background

Instructions

1. Get your equipment
2. Place your petri dish on the white background
3. Put your Skittles around the edge inside the petri dish
4. Pour warm water into the middle of the petri dish, gently.
5. Observe what happens.

Prediction:

I think the colours from the Skittles with slowly blend into the middle, all the Skittles will lose their colour and turn white.

Results

The Skittle's colour fell of the Skittle and when into the water go into the middle.After a little the colours merged.

Discussion

1. The colours dissolved (when a solid is mixed into a liquid, creating a solution).

Why did the colours spread?

2. Once the colours dissolved into the liquid, the high concentration of colour moved into the middle where the there a low concentration of colour. This is called diffusion.

Steps

1. Get heating equipment and place the equipment on the bench.

2. Get and then wear safety goggles.

3. Place the heat mat onto the bench near a gas tap.

4. Take the bunsen burner and place it onto the heating mat.

5. Connect the hose from the bunsen burner onto the gas tap.

6. Turn the collar on the bunsen burner to close the air hole.

7. Light a match or lighter and hold one of them over the bunsen burner.

8. Turn on the gas.

9. Then once on, turn the collar to open the air hole.

10. When turning off the gas make sure to turn the collar to close the air hole.

Hands on Fire

 Aim:

I want to SAFELY light my hands on fire. 

Method:

Equipment

• Detergent
• Lighter
• Safety Glasses/Goggles
• Gas
• Tray
• Hose

Instructions

1. Collect your equipment
2. Put some water into the tray.
3. Squirt some detergent in the water
4. Put on your safety glasses/goggles.
5. Tie up any long hair.
6. Take off any jewellery.
7. Wet your hands, wrists and arms.
8. Bubble the gas into the water.
9. Scoop the bubbles but not the water.
10. Hold the bubbles in fount if your face with your arms locked.
11. Light the bubbles on fire with the lighter.
12. To get rid of the fire, go into the Ironman pose.

Results

I could see a massive orange flame and on some occasions the flame would hit the roof.

I felt heat from the flames

I could hear the whole class screaming when the flame went up.

All I could hear was my teacher's hair burning.

My First Blog Post For This Year

 

Hello, welcome to my first blog post of this year, I’ve been told to talk about a couple of things like how did I feel about starting back at school and what has been your favorite thing so far just as a couple of things.

How did I feel about starting back at school, and if I’m honest no much I didn’t really care but at the beginning of school for about 10 minutes of the first day I was a little nervous because I couldn’t find my friends.

What has been my favorite thing so far, My teachers. Easy. My teachers are nice and helpful and so were my teachers last year too. So that's good that I can go to at least most of my classes knowing that my teacher is going to be nice. At least most of my classes…

What has been surprising about school? Nothing, what SHOULD I be surprised about school? I’ve been here before and as far as I’ve seen nothing surprised me, unless I should be surprised about the fact we have grass on the feld now.

Which subjects am I learning this year? This year? Do you mean this term? Well have I written… Uh cooking… Socal study? I don’t know if I’m being honest I go to school and just look at the classroom and go. Or something. MOVING ON!

What am I looking forward to this year? Sewing, I love it.
